What's Mine is Yours:
The Rise of Collaborative Consumption
What’s the Book About?

Rachel Botsman and Roo Rogers are currently writing a book that focuses on a rapidly emerging economy they describe as ‘Collaborative Consumption’. This occurs when people come together through virtual and real-world communities to share, barter, trade, rent, gift, lend, and swap to get the same pleasures of ownership with reduced personal burden and cost and lower environmental impact.

The book travels amongst the quiet revolutionaries (consumers, community organizers and companies) from all around the world who are at the heart of Collaborative Consumption. The stories and their lessons are grouped into three different categories: Product Service Systems (PSS) (e.g. Zipcar), Collaborative Lifestyles (E.g. Zopa), and Redistribution Markets (e.g. Craigslist).

“What’s Mine is Yours” will be published worldwide by HarperCollins in the Fall of 2010. Please check back here for updates.

“We are mimicking the once-close ties of village face-to-face exchanges that were broken long ago by hyper-consumption. So in fact our “new” way of doing things is in fact a reincarnation of the old way of doing things.” – Botsman

“Not only are our wants and needs changing, but the way we fulfill those needs is being transformed by the convergence of online social networks increasing cost consciousness and environmental necessity.”
